Mayor's Welcome
Welcome to the Village of Merrionette Park! The village we call home is bordered by Chicago to the north and east, Oak Lawn to the northwest, Blue Island to the south, and Alsip to the west. As your Mayor, it is my hope that here you will find important information for and about our wonderful community, both past and present.
Our village began in 1940 with Joseph (James) Merrion building about 125 single family homes, and was officially named Merrionette Park in February 1947 after Merrion. In 1952, an additional 339 single family homes were developed by E.T. Mahoney, followed by the development over the next several years of several residential buildings and a gas station. The 1980’s brought about even more growth with the addition of Stone Brook Plaza & Mall, along with our famous water tower. Then in 1986, a commercial core was introduced on the corner of 115th and Kedzie, and in the 1990’s continued residential development occurred with 33 new homes, a retention pond on Homan, and a medical pavilion. In the mid 2000’s continued economic development occurred with the addition of 115 Bourbon Street, and additional medical buildings. Much of the growth was under the direction of our former Mayor Dennis Magee and our former Clerk, the late Carol Sullivan. The homes and commercial core built and introduced decades ago remain standing today. We also continue to see growth and change in our village within the storefronts at Stone Brook Plaza & Mall, and within the village itself under the direction of our current government. Our village continues to change and grow, as our population has almost doubled in size over the last several decades. We are currently a village of almost 2, 000!
Our Village consists of a Mayor and Trustees form of government. Information about our Government, such as Village Board Agendas & Minutes and Elected/Appointed Officials, are readily available here for Residents under the Government tab. We welcome all to attend our monthly meetings held at Village Hall scheduled for the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 7:30pm.
Our Village Departments include the Clerk’s Office, Public Works, Building, Fire, and Police. They provide an array of Services for our community. Please feel free to search the Village Services tab which outlines information about our Clerk’s Office, specifically the General Information Guide; and our Merrionette Park Fire & Police Departments which include letters from Fire Chief Thomas Wendt and Police Chief John Palcu.
Not only do our Merrionette Fire & Police Departments provide services to our community, but their staff has also worked in conjunction with Village staff, including myself, to maintain and present a variety of community events for our Residents. The events include the historical and annual Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Parade, Christmas Parade; and the introduction of a Village Movie Night, National Night Out, and Breakfast with Santa. If you have not had an opportunity to join our community at one of these events, we welcome you to join us!
Please also feel free to visit the How Do I tab for additional information, and the Town Images tab to check out a few photos of our beautiful Village.
Thank you and once again, Welcome to the Village of Merrionette Park!
